We are often asked about our name the CLUTCH, and of course all good tales have an intriguing backstory!
If you take a stroll along Hogan to the north side of our circa 1938 brick building, you will find an artful display of assorted car clutches. Although this was the inciting inspiration, in time we realized the serendipity of this name for our growing vision and collective. We love how our name "the CLUTCH" literally found us, as we began renovations in OCTOBER 2020, slowly “shifting” and transforming the space. The rest as they say, is history.
Beyond the more common definitions of “clutch”, such as a car's clutch, or a clutch play in the sports world, our vision connects more closely to its urban use:
“The characterization of something as excellent”.
We are honored by our growing collective of “Clutch friends", those who support and love us unconditionally- those who will help us heal and find common ground.
It starts with a dream,
a plan,
and most importantly,
a village.
A shout out to our "village"; the many minds behind the scenes, artisans, and craftspersons who helped build our dream. Thank you for your patience with my incessant, ever-curious questions of "how things work", and to Jon Bagby, for holding the dream and trusting my sketches and scribbles.

Let no one keep you from your journey,
no rabbi or priest,
no mother who wants you to dig for treasures she misplaced,
no father who won't let one life be enough,
no lover who measures their worth by what you might give up,
no voice that tells you in the night it can't be done.
Let nothing dissuade you from seeing what you see
or feeling the winds that make you
want to dance alone
or go where no one has yet to go.
You are the only explorer.
Your heart, the unreadable compass.
Your soul, the shore of a promise too great to be ignored.
